Product Configurations

The following are typical configurations for the Dimension Icon Scanning Probe Microscope, detailing options for acoustic and mechanical vibration isolation, as well as various options for positioning the control station (computer, control electronics, and accessories). Facilities requirements depend on what type of configuration is used.

Dimension Icon-PI

This configuration consists of two basic elements: the VT-1000, an air table for vibration isolation, and a typical “table top” version of the control station (computer, control electronics, and accessories). The VT-1000 is a compact air table on which the Dimension Icon microscope rests and does not include an acoustic hood. The electronics box (“e-box”) is bolted to a shelf on the side of the VT-1000. The picture below illustrates the “table top” version of the control station with one of many possible configurations of the control station elements. This configuration includes the two electronics boxes stacked atop each other on the far right of the table, the tower computer placed next to them on the table top, and the monitors, keyboard, and mouse located on the far left. There are many ways to station the equipment, including placing the controller boxes on the floor or underneath the monitor, or placing computer on the floor, which may save some space and change the facilities requirements.

Dimension Icon-PT

This configuration substitutes one large monitor for the two smaller monitors shown above. The computer, control electronics, and accessories can be arranged on the table top, as illustrated below, or items such as the controller boxes and computer tower may be placed underneath the table to conserve space. Modifications to the layout should be made according to user preferences with awareness of the local facilities set up and the considerations listed in this manual.

The AVH-1000 air table with integrated hood, can be ordered as an option on the Dimension Icon-PI or PT. Note that, because of the hood, the footprint of the AVH-1000 is somewhat larger than the footprint of the VT-1000.

Dimension Icon

The Dimension Icon configuration, shown below, includes the AVH-1000, a cabinet that holds the NanoScope V Controller, the Dimension Stage Controller, the computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and trackball that control the Dimension Icon SPM.
